|
Description
More like a dessert than a side dish, this baked apple recipe has been in the family for years and traditionally served at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Directions
Peel, core and halve apples. Place them side by side and cut-side down in a buttered baking dish. Mix sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon and enough water to make a thin "gravy". Cook over low heat till thickened and clear. Add 1 T. butter and enough red food coloring to make a nice pink/red sauce. Pour hot sauce over apples and bake, covered at 375 degrees till apples are tender but not falling apart. Cool completely. Place apples in a pretty crystal serving bowl and spoon sauce over the top. Refrigerate overnight. At serving time, spoon Cool Whip or fresh whipped cream with a little sugar added, over the top, sealing edges.
